The Trade Show is a celebration of all things Ha'apai, the people, the culture and all goods and items produced in Ha'apai.  From an economic perspective it is a means by which to boost the Ha'apai economy by encouraging as many people to participate and make money from the trade fair.  Due to the expectation that the show will be the largest collection of Tongan products ever assembled and the heavy promotional work currently undertaken, there is expected to be an influx of Tongans residing overseas as well as Tourists.  The attraction of large amounts foreign money can only be good for Tonga..

The Ha'apai Trade Show is the brainstorm of the People's Representatives of Ha'apai, Mr. Uliti Uata and Mr. Fineasi Funaki.  The show has gained the financial support of both the Legislative Assembly and the government of Tonga.  Amongst the biggest supporters are the Governor of Ha'apai, Hon. Malupo, the Noble's Representatives for Ha'apai, Hon. Tu'iha'ateiho and Hon. Tu'iha'angana and the Minister of Health, Hon. Viliami Tangi.  It was these members that visited the Ha'apai Group of islands in July to promote and encourage all the people of Ha'apai to participate in the trade show.  As part of the promotion of the trade fair, a group to be led by the Governor of Ha'apai will visit New Zealand, Australia, and selected States in the US that has a heavy Tongan population to attain not only awareness but to encourage them to visit Tonga in December.  Pictured above: Mr. Uliti Uata exhibiting some of the Tongan wear (kiekie) that will be sold at the Trade Show.
