VOTERS of Tongatapu 9 constituency are casting their vote today in a by-election to fill the left vacant by the late Kaveinga Fa’anunu who died recently.

The seat has been vacant since July this year.

According to the Supervisor of Elections, Pita Vuki nine polling stations have been set up in Tongatapu, and one each in Vava’u, Ha’apai, ‘Eua and the two Niuas.’

The poll opened this morning at 9am and closes at 4pm today.

Six candidates are vying for Tongatapu 9 constituency seat in Parliament. They are Falisi Tupou from Tatakamotonga, Seventeen Toumo’ua from Haveluliku, Viliami Fukofuka from Tatakamotonga, ‘Epeli Kalemani from Fua’amotu, Siaosi Tu’ipulotu from ‘Alaki and Simana Kamï of Lavengatonga.

Late Kaveinga Fa’anunu was elected as Tongatapu 9 People’s Representative on 25th November, 2010.

Tongatapu 9 electorate consists of Tatakamotonga, ‘Alaki, Pelehake, Toloa, Fua’amotu, Nakolo, Fatumu, Lavengatonga, Ha’asini and Hamula.
