The Parliamentary Library was established in late 2003 as part of an aid package that was funded by the British, Australia and New Zealand governments.  To assist and offer advice on the establishment of the library, Mrs. Moira Fraser - General Manager, Parliamentary Library Services (NZ), flew to Tonga to oversee the work.  From that time the publications and books available in the Library has grown in size.  Also included in the library facilities is a research room equipped with computers and support staff.  The computers were donated by the British High Commission.

Staff begin working on the library (2003)

The Parliamentary Library has become an important and well-used resource by members of the Legislative Assembly.  The Library collections include books, debates of the Tongan Parliament, publications and magazines of some foreign National and State Parliaments, reports of Central and State Governments and the United Nations and its Agencies, Tongan Gazettes and of course an up-to-date collection of the Laws and Bills bought before the House.

Enjoying the new library after completion

Most of the books available in the Library are primarily in English but for the Laws, Ministerial Reports and Minutes of the House which is available in Tongan.
