Mr. Edwards is a qualified lawyer by profession and was educated in New Zealand. He has practiced law both in Tonga and New Zealand since the mid 1960's and has been involved in one form or another, in most of the major cases in Tonga .
He is also a former Minister of Police and subsequently, has already been a member of parliament for 8 years. After serving the Executive Arms of the Government of Tonga for many years, Mr. Edwards stood for election in the March 2005 General Election and was elected in the 2005 By-Elections as a Peoples' Representative after an ammendment to the Constitution which resulted in the appointment of 4 new Ministers from the People and Nobles Representatives to the Executive.
He was one of the founding members of a new party called the "People's Democratic Party." He was reelected in the 2008 General Election as the Number 3 Peoples' reresentative of the Tongatapu Group.
