The Interim Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga, Rt. Hon. Lord Tangi, has confirmed that the meeting of the Elected Representatives to elect the Prime Minister is to be held on Wednesday 15 December 2021, 10am at the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.

The period for receiving nomination of candidates for the position of Prime Minister will close on Tuesday 14 December 2021 at 4.30pm. So far, one nomination has been received, which was submitted to the Office of the Interim Speaker on Monday 13 December 2021.

The Interim Speaker will open and read out Prime Minister nomination(s) on the day of the meeting. The nominations of candidates from the Nobles’ representatives for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament will be made verbally by Elected Representatives from the floor at the same meeting, after the results of the Prime Minister election is declared. The meeting will then proceed to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

The meeting to elect the Prime Minister, Speaker of Parliament, and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, will be broadcasted live on local radio stations and stream live on the Fale Alea Facebook and YouTube channel.
