GOVERNMENT has announced a budget deficit of about $60million from its total proposed Estimates of $589.6 million for the 2020/2021 financial year.
The $589.6 million budget consists of the $465.8million government budget support and donor cash and 123.78 million (59 percent) donor in-kind.
(Nuku’alofa, Tonga) 11 May 2020 – In preparation for the tabling of the 2020-2021 national budget, which will also include the appropriation for the COVID-19 stimulus package, the Legislative Assembly of Tonga is benefitting from the remote support of the “Pacific Floating Budget Office” initiative developed by the United Development Programme.
HIS Majesty King Tupou Vi is thankful Tonga is still safe from COVID 19. However, he is mindful of the need for his kingdom and people to be ready for the pandemic and the likely impacts of climate change.
His Majesty King Tupou VI will officially open the Legislative Assembly of Tonga this Thursday, May 7, 2020, at 10:00 am.
The Lord Chamberlain has informed the Speaker of Parliament, that The King will deliver His Royal Address from the Royal Palace, Nuku’alofa via a Livestream feed to the Parliament’s Chamber.
