THE Legislative Assembly today unanimously passed the biggest national budget ever proposed for Tonga in the Legislative Assembly.

Corruption is a destructive phenomenon across the world, including Pacific Islands, and threatens the region’s sustainable development. It is a signifixcant and complex issue, with many causes and many negative results. Unfortunately, neither corruption, nor its negative impacts are well understood in Pacific Islands.

Members of the Tongan Media recently took part in a training on anti-corruption undertaken by the UN Pacific Regional Anti-Corruption (UN-PRAC) Project with the assistance of the UNDP Tonga Governance Strengthening Programme (TGSP).

THE Legislative Assembly today pledged to support Government’s programs to further develop the agricultural, fishery and tourism sectors – all being important sectors to the public.
