THE Legislative Assembly has approved for the Members of Parliament to undertake drugs test to show that they are serious about the fight against illicit drugs. This is on a voluntary basis.
‘Eua Noble Representative Lord Nuku moved the Motion after Tongatapu 8 constituency MP, Hon. Vaea Taione raised concern over the successful drug bust in his constituency last week where Tonga Police Drugs Squad seized over 12 kilograms of methamphetamine.
This prompted Lord Nuku to propose to the House for a drug test.
Lord Nuku said MPs are law makers, therefore they should act with integrity and play leading role in the fight against drugs in Tonga. The House unanimously voted in favour of the Motion.
