Lord Speaker Tu'ivakano opens Internationational Youth Day 2015
THE Legislative Assembly join hands with the rest of the world today in commemorating the International Youth Day.
Young people from different church group visited Parliament this afternoon as part of their youth civic engagement programme to mark the event.
Acting Clerk of Parliament, Dr. Sione Vikilani warmly welcomed the visitors at the Parliament’s Chamber.
A video presentation was made on the works of Parliament and they were also briefed on the roles and core functions of the Legislative Assembly.
Prior to their visit, the Speaker of Parliament Lord Tu’ivakano opens the International Youth Day 2015 ceremony earlier today at the Civic Square, Nuku’alofa.
Debates on how youth can involve in decision making help to promote peaceful and inclusive community and other issues as well as poem readings were among today’s featured activities.
This year’s event focuses on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) thanks to the sponsorship of the Australian Government through a collaborative effort with UNDP under its Tonga Governance Strengthening Programme (TGSP).
