A TOTAL OF TWO PRIME MINISTER CANDIDATE NOMINATIONS RECEIVED BY THE OFFICE OF THE LORD SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT
The period allowed for submission of Prime Minister Elect candidate nominations by Elected Representatives to the Office of the Lord Speaker of Parliament closed at 4.30pm today. A total of two Prime Minister candidate nominations were received. The first nomination was received on Friday 20 December, and the second nomination was received at noon today.
The Lord Speaker has since issued a notice calling a meeting of the Elected Representatives to be held tomorrow, Tuesday 24 December 2024, 10am, at the Legislative Assembly. The Elected Representatives will elect Tonga’s Prime Minister at this meeting from the two nominated candidates, whose names will be revealed tomorrow.
The meeting will be livestreamed via the Legislative Assembly’s Facebook page (FALE ALEA ‘O TONGA) and YouTube channel (Falealea Tonga). It will also be covered and broadcasted live on radio by media operators.
