The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga, Lord Fakafanua, has been invited to speak at the prestigious ʻĀkoakoa gathering, taking place on March 10-11, 2025, at the Hawai‘i Convention Center in Honolulu. This special event, organized by the Polynesian Voyaging Society, brings together mission partners to discuss collaborative strategies for protecting the Earth and its oceans.

Lord Fakafanua is one of 12 distinguished guest speakers at the event, which aims to foster unity and create a shared action plan for ocean conservation and environmental sustainability. His address, titled "How the Ocean Connects Us," will highlight the critical role of the ocean in uniting communities, cultures, and nations across the Pacific and beyond.

Lord Fakafanua represent Tonga’s interests on the global stage and is a dedicated advocate for ocean stewardship and Pacific regional unity, he has been a leading voice on issues such as climate resilience, sustainable ocean management, and youth empowerment since his election to Parliament in 2008.

Lord Fakafanua’s extensive experience and his unwavering commitment to environmental protection have earned him recognition on international platforms. He has represented Tonga at the United Nations, the Pacific Islands Forum, and the Commonwealth, where he has consistently advocated for stronger marine ecosystem protections and urgent global action on climate change.

The ʻĀkoakoa gathering provides a unique opportunity for leaders, experts, and advocates to collaborate on innovative solutions for safeguarding the planet.
