Lord Tu’iavakano, a distinguished member of the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD), will represent the Legislative Assembly of Tonga at the 15th AFPPD General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday, April 27.

Hosted by AFPPD Malaysia with support from the Japan Trust Fund and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the forum will welcome delegates from 30 countries across Asia and the Pacific, including Tonga.

Key discussions will center around reviewing AFPPD’s 2023–2025 strategic plan, setting new priorities for 2025–2029, and selecting a new location for the AFPPD Secretariat. Delegates will also elect new Executive Committee members and share national experiences in population and development.

The event underscores AFPPD’s ongoing commitment to the ICPD Programme of Action and the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

A study visit on April 28 will give participants an opportunity to explore Malaysia’s initiatives on ageing and population health.
