A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Tongatapu at 1:18 AM today, triggering an initial tsunami warning, which was later lifted. The earthquake’s epicenter was located 193 kilometers northeast of Tongatapu, 142 kilometers southeast of Pangai, and 216 kilometers west of Neiafu, Vava’u.
