FOR three years, Dr. Viliami Latu has been counting votes, reading out bills and Legislations and managing the Parliamentary Staff as part of his duty as Chief Clerk of the Legislative Assembly.
This is about to change. Dr. Latu or Viliami as he is known to the staff of the Legislative Assembly will be among the new Members of Parliament after winning the seat for the Vava’u 16 constituent. It is second time lucky for Dr. Latu after falling short by 51 votes in the 2008 Election. Dr. Latu was Clerk of the Legislative Assembly from 2008 up to his election as a Member of Parliament for Vava’u. He is believed to be the first Clerk of the House to ever win a seat in an election.
