The Lord Speaker and all Members of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga were sworn in today at Parliament.

Members took the oath of office as Noble Representatives, People’s Representatives, and Cabinet Ministers, pledging allegiance to His Majesty the King and committing to uphold the law and the Constitution of Tonga.

MPs also pledged to carry out their duties in the best interests of the King, the country, and the people.

Vavaʻu No. 2 Noble Representative Lord Tuʻilakepa was appointed Chair of the Whole House Committee, while chairs of the House’s 11 Standing Committees, including the Legislative Assembly Retirement Board, were also announced.

Parliament endorsed Select Committee Report No. 1/2026, its written reply to His Majesty the King’s Address at the opening of the 2026 Parliamentary Sitting. Lord Speaker Vaea appointed Lord Maʻafu and Hon. Kapelieli Lanumata to present the reply to the King.

Parliament has adjourned until further notice.
