The Legislative Assembly of Tonga has approved the referral of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Report No. 3/2025 to the Committee of the Whole House for further deliberation.
Members of Parliament will examine the PAC's findings in conjunction with the 2025/26 Appropriation Act, Draft Budget Estimates, Budget Statement, and other pertinent financial documents.
This report follows the PAC's review of the national budget, which was tabled in Parliament on June 3 and referred to the committee the following day for in-depth scrutiny.
Additional budget matters referred to the Committee of the Whole House include a motion seeking approval for a government loan exceeding TOP$15 million, drawn from a $30 million bond outlined in the 2025/26 Budget Estimates, as well as the Tonga Office of the Auditor General’s (TOAG) Draft Annual Plan for 2025–2026.
Meanwhile, the Public Accounts Committee has been tasked with a further review of the Government’s Financial Statement for the year ending June 30, 2024.
