The Standing Committee on Finance and Public Accounts (PAC) is currently reviewing the Tonga Government’s $992.8 million budget for the 2025/26 financial year. The budget was referred to the committee early last Thursday.
This referral, made by Lord Speaker Fakafanua, reflects Parliament’s ongoing commitment to enhancing oversight of government expenditures. To facilitate this review, the Legislative Assembly was temporarily adjourned.
The budget was initially presented to Parliament last Monday, with the Appropriation Bill 2025/26 passing its first reading following the Prime Minister and Finance Minister Hon. Dr. ‘Aisake Eke’s speech on the Budget Statement.
Parliament is set to reconvene next Monday 16th of June to consider the PAC’s Committee Report.
