A Budget briefing was provided yesterday for Members of Parliament before they deliberate on 23/24 National Budget today.

Named Budget at a Glance 2023/2024 the Budget Analysis Mission is supported by UNDP through phase two of the Pacific Parliamentary Effectiveness Initiative funded by the New Zealand Government.

The Budget Analysis Mission has been running for six consecutive years and is aimed at providing easy to digest information about the National Budget.

The Floating Budget Mission provided analysis of 2023/2024 Budget and also government department’s Corporate Plans aimed to assist and strengthen Members of Parliament's scrutiny of the budget.

This year, it is the first time for Tonga Parliament to run Mission without the assistance of experts and researchers from other Pacific Parliaments.

The Chief Clerk of Parliament, Gloria Pole’o and Committee Research Team conducted the Budget Analysis Mission 2023.

‘Eua 11 constituency MP Hon. Dr. Taniela Fusimālohi thanks the Budget Analysis Mission Team for their effort in providing good and resource information to help MPs during the budget deliberation.

In the past years, similar missions have been conducted here in Tonga and other Pacific Parliaments such as Samoa, Fiji and Vanuatu.

Meanwhile, the National Budget for 2023/24 Financial Year was tabled in Parliament this morning for discussion.
