APPOINTMENT OF THE SPEAKER OF THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF TONGA AND DEPUTY

His Majesty King Tupou VI has appointed Lord Vaea, the No. 2 Representative of the Nobles for Tongatapu, as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga, in accordance with the Constitution of Tonga. Lord Vaea succeeds Lord Fakafanua, who was appointed yesterday as the Prime Minister of Tonga.

His Majesty King Tupou VI has also appointed Lord Tu’iha’angana, the No. 2 Representative of the Nobles for Ha’apai, as the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.

The instruments of appointment for both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, have been duly authorised and signed by His Majesty The King, with effect from 18 December 2025.

These appointments complete the leadership of the Legislative Assembly for the new parliamentary term following the 2025 General Election.
