Members of Parliament (MPs) participated in a comprehensive budget briefing today, organized by the Legislative Assembly of Tonga in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as part of the Floating Budget Office 2025 Mission. This session is in preparation for the official 2025/26 budget discussions scheduled for next week.
The Floating Budget Office team comprised experts from the Fiji Parliament, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Zealand Parliament, and a consultant from Australia, assisted by the staff of the Committee and Library Division of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga. Together, they provided MPs with accessible and detailed analyses of the national budget, aiming to enhance their capacity to scrutinize and engage in informed discussions.
Now in its eighth year, the Floating Budget Mission continues to support MPs with valuable analysis and insights, aiding them in making informed decisions during national budget discussions. This initiative underscores the commitment to strengthening parliamentary oversight and promoting transparency in the budget process.
